by:TR     2021-08-27
The Baker Street Boy was founded by Tomasz Danielec, 42, and andArekGlanowski, 34, with luxurious design and handmade furniture and is headquartered in Marylebone.
Below, TomaszDanielec shares their design inspiration, favorite works and the feeling of being a furniture designer.
How did you become a furniture designer?
I have been trained as an architect and have worked in the design industry for 20 years.
I started focusing on furniture design about two years ago because it was my long term dream.
Do you have any suggestions for those who wish to enter the industry?
For those who want to break through the industry, the best advice is to do it!
Don\'t be afraid to leave familiar things and take risks! Go for it!
Start with sketches, play with cardboard models, make modelsups etc.
Have a little fun.
What are you predicting trends in the coming months?
At the moment, Scandinavian design is huge and will continue.
In my opinion, the biggest trend in the future will be functionality and versatility
People live in much smaller places than before, so there is a growing demand for clever multi-purpose furniture.
We are trying to be inspired by this trend.
Speaking of materials, I think we will see a lot of new contemporary uses of copper and marble.
Are you currently working on any special new designs or projects?
At the moment, I am busy completing our Pick \'n Mix concept, which will be presented during the Clerkenwell design cycle.
The idea is for people to choose between different tops and bottoms --
Someone might say that we want to share some design capabilities with our customers!
I am also starting to think about the product design and we will be rolling out the new modular service board.
This is very interesting.
We will introduce soft furniture design later this year.
We found a great Scottish textile designer, chantar Balmer, who created beautiful wool fabrics.
We would love to work with her!
What\'s your favorite in the file?
Our coffee table is my favorite.
I was a little selfish when I designed it, as I designed it for myself, to solve one of my nagging problems: You see, I\'m a coffee lover.
The best part of my day was that I had a cup of coffee on the couch before I started working.
It\'s always annoying to bend over to get coffee from a low coffee table.
Our table has a higher platform and I can take it to the couch and put my cup next to me! Problem solved!
Where are you looking for design inspiration?
I like industrial design.
London is my greatest inspiration.
I live in Baker Street and I get inspired by just walking around my area every day.
The industrial revolution and London in the 19 th century have had a huge impact on 1st of our production lines.
What is the last home item you bought?
I bought this little milk can in connoland, Marylebone.
What are your favorite design shops/boutiques in London or elsewhere?
I love Conland and it\'s very close to me so I go a lot but freedom is my favorite shop in the world!
I like everything about it.
From collection to customer service, even the taste is absolutely unique!
Is there a restaurant or hotel in London that you particularly enjoy?
I love Soho\'s house design, which combines fashion and industrial design.
I\'m not a fan of compromise design, but at Soho House, this design is done very well and works very well.
Do you have tips for top room remodel?
Clean my room for good.
This is a real eye opener!
But seriously
It\'s always a good first step to organize the template.
You\'ll be surprised how much you can achieve by just throwing things away instead of adding things!
We don\'t actually need a lot of stuff, I would suggest that you just need one or two pieces of really strong stuff to make your room a little personal --
The rest should be the background.
You can\'t live without any furniture? Chairs!
I need to challenge myself and design one!
Describe the day in the life of hotel furniture designers . . . . . . I woke up early and started my day with a cup of coffee.
Then I went for a walk in Regent\'s Park and put my thoughts together.
It took me about half the time to sketch and I have very unorthodox working methods.
I usually sketch outside . . . . . . Sometimes when it rains, I sketch in the street or in the park, in the cafe.
I don\'t use computers or design software in my opinion because they kill creativity.
I usually work with my partners on business-related tasks --
Less fancy parts of the job, such as email, meetings, marketing, orders, etc.
